AGRA: Mathura police on Monday resorted to mild cane charge to disperse a group of devotees trying to stop officials from removing an illegal ‘piyau’ that had been erected on the Govardhan Parikrama Road.According to officials, the removal of the temporary piyau was being undertaken on the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to remove all encroachments on the Parikrama Road.Station house officer of Govardhan Vinod Kumar Yadav said that no one was injured and no case has been registered against anyone. He said only mild force was used to disperse the crowd. Later, the devotees themselves removed the temporary structure.However, one of devotees from Bhind, Charm Chand Jain claimed that he was beaten by the police officials when he told them not to remove the structure. He said that he has been putting up this temporary structure for the past seven years during Guru Purnima fair for the convenience of the visitors and this was the first time that the police had forcefully removed it.According to local administrative officials, the step was taken in compliance of NGT order. He said, no one perhaps stopped them earlier, but now the administration will not allow anyone to encroach land on Govardhan Parikrama Road.
