Taj beautiful but Agra not easy to live

AGRA: The Taj Mahal could be the first choice for lakhs of visitors across the world, but the city of the 17th century monument is certainly not easy to live in, if one goes by the index of Ease of Living 2018, which was released by the ministry of a housing and urban affairs on Monday.The Taj city ranks number 55 on the Index, even behind Ghaziabad, which is at 46, and Rae Bareilly, the constituency of congress supremo, Sonia Gandhi , that ranks 49. Though 14 cities of UP have been listed in the index, none are among the top 10.Every year around one crore tourists, including 6-7 lakh foreigners, children and VVIPs, visit the city to see the Taj and other tourism sites, the city is far from liveable, as per the list. Agra’s pollution has been in catching headlines due to adverse impact on the beauty of Taj and the Supreme Court has also expressed its displeasure on the prevailing situation.According to PIB release, evaluation of 111 cities was done on a 100-point scale across 78 indicators with institutional and social pillars carrying 25 points each, economic pillar carrying 5 points and physical pillar carrying 45 points.The pillars are further broken down into 15 categories.The aim is to encourage cities to move towards an outcome-based approach in urban planning and management.
