Priest farmer beaten to death in temple sadhu hurt

Agra: Two people, including a temple priest, died and a sadhu sustained injuries when were allegedly beaten up by unknown assailants at Shiv temple at Milk village in the communally sensitive city of Aligarh on Sunday night. He is said to be out of danger, police said.According to the villagers, the temple was built on a disputed plot of land. Police said unidentified assailants had used eucalyptus logs to make a ladder to climb up to the terrace, where they allegedly beat up the three men with sticks. Police have recovered two sticks from the crime spot. This could be the reason for the attack.Talking with TOI, SSP Ajay Kumar Saini said a case has been registered under IPC section 302 (murder) and the matter is being investigated.

A case has been registered under IPC section 302 (murder) and the matter is being investigated.The deceased were identified as Kalidas Yadav (60), who had been living in the temple for the past 22 years and a farmer, Sohanpal Yadav (50), who happened to be sleeping there on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.The injured man, Mahendra Sharma, has been kept under observation at JN Medical College. He is said to be out of danger, police said.According to the villagers, the temple was built on a disputed plot of land. This could be the reason for the attack.Talking with TOI, SSP Ajay Kumar Saini said a case has been registered under IPC section 302 (murder) and the matter is being investigated. He said prima facie it is a case of loot as the priest’s box was also found open, but police are investigating all angles.Initially, residents of Milk village, under Palli Mukumpur police jurisdiction, did not allow the police to take away the bodies for a post-mortem and blocked the road. Later, they handed over the bodies to the police after they were assured that the assailants would soon be arrested.According to police, the incident occurred around 50 km from the district headquarters on Sunday night, when all three were sleeping on the terrace of the Shiv temple. Police said unidentified assailants had used eucalyptus logs to make a ladder to climb up to the terrace, where they allegedly beat up the three men with sticks. Police have recovered two sticks from the crime spot.
