AGRA: Farrukhabad police on Thursday arrested a doctor attached with the Mainpuri district community health centre and his aide for allegedly shooting dead a local businessman in Khandai colony under Farrukhabad police jurisdiction on the night of August 10. The shooting was a result of a road rage incident, said police. The accused claimed he pulled the trigger in self-defence.Identifying the accused as Dr Ashutosh Mishra, police said he is also a trained commando and served as an assistant commandant in the BSF for over two decades as a medical officer. A resident of Bhurawali colony under Sahabganj police jurisdiction of Farrukhabad, Mishra was arrested along with Bharat Lal, a relative. The two were booked for murder under IPC section 302.According to Atul Sharma, superintendent of police, Farrukhabad, “After going through hundreds of CCTV footage and CDR records, we zeroed in on Ashutosh Mishra and his aide, Bharat Lal. During interrogation, Mishra claimed to shot the victim, Manoj Ranjan, alias Raju Pandey, in self-defence, from his licensed revolver.”Giving details, Sharma said, “On August 10, the doctor and Bharat Lal were heading towards Lohia Hospital on a two-wheeler to resolve another dispute with someone else. On their way, victim’s son, Hrithik Pandey, rashly drove his hatchback and ran over Mishra’s foot, injuring him. Later, Bharat snatched away Hrithik’s car keys and both sides engaged in a heated argument that soon deteriorated into a fist fight. Seeing his son in trouble, Manoj Ranjan came with his shotgun and hit Bharat and Mishra with its butt. Thereafter, Mishra whipped out his revolver and shot dead Manoj Ranjan before fleeing from the spot.”
