10-yr-old Dalit boy thrashed on suspicion of stealing ‘hing’ box

Another incident was reported from Fatehpur district, where a Dalit man was allegedly abducted, held in captivity for 24 hours and murdered by his employer on suspicion of stealing a gold chain. The victim claimed when he went to the shop, Aslam took him inside and started thrashing him.This is the latest in a string of attacks on Dalits in the state in recent months. On July 18, a 22-year-old youth was allegedly assaulted by three men in Meerut district and was forced to abuse Dalit icon and right activist Dr BR Ambedkar on camera.In April, a man from Badaun was allegedly assaulted and forced to drink urine by a group of men after he refused to harvest their crops. On Saturday morning, Aslam came to their house and asked Jatin to accompany him to the shop, located at Subhash gate.Though Jatin was reluctant, Aslam told him to work till Raksha Bandhan festival due to the huge rush. Agra: Suspecting that a minor Dalit boy had stolen a box of ‘hing’ (asafoetida) from his shop, a shopkeeper and an aide allegedly brutally assaulted him on Saturday morning in Karhal area of Mainpuri.Mohammad Aslam, shopkeeper, and his neighbour, Rajesh, have been arrested for assaulting the 10-year-old boy, Jatin, for allegedly stealing a box of ‘hing’ valued at Rs 600.SSP, Mainpuri, Ajay Shankar Rai said a case has been registered under IPC section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and provisions of the SC/ST Act against the duo on the basis of a complaint filed by the boy’s family.Speaking with mediapersons, the victim alleged, “Aslam hanged me upside down and beat me with a wire and also administered electric shock to me.”According to the boy’s mother, Neetu Devi, her son, who worked in Aslam's general merchant shop, had not been reporting to work for the past three days.
