AMC to install GPS tracking device in all official vehicles

Earlier, GPS was installed in over 100 vehicles as part of a pilot project, but the devices stopped working within few months. However, it was found that in most cases, these vehicles took just one or two rounds to the site. These devices will also detect over-speeding,” Rathi said.AMC maintains a fleet of 328 medium and heavy vehicles.

Agra: In an attempt to curb misuse of diesel, the Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) administration has started working on a plan to equip its entire fleet of vehicles with GPStracking devices. Sources said that GPS system will also be installed in vehicles used by AMC officials and the process to issue a tender in this regard has already been initiated.Through these devices, AMC will monitor movement of vehicles, especially those which fail in timely garbage collection, from a central control room. Besides, CCTV cameras will be installed at the central workshop in Transport Nagar and the landfill site in Kuberpur.Recently, Agra mayor Naveen Jain had found irregularities in records of diesel consumption and had passed strict directives to officials to ensure that diesel theft does not take place.According to sources, diesel was being supplied to each garbage collection vehicle to take three rounds of Kuberpur landfill site. However, it was found that in most cases, these vehicles took just one or two rounds to the site. The remaining fuel was allegedly sold in the market.AMC environment engineer Rajiv Rathi said, “Work on plan to install GPS tracking device in all vehicles has been initiated. Besides, movement of all garbage collection vehicles and vehicles being used by officers will be monitored to check fuel consumption through a centralized control room.”“The workshop in Transport Nagar, where the civic body’s fuel pump is located, will be brought under CCTV surveillance. CCTV cameras will also be installed at Kuberpur dumpsite. This way, there won’t be any scope for diesel theft. Monitoring of garbage collection vehicles will also ensure better maintenance of sanitation and hygiene in the city.
