Based on their input, a jeweller identified as Rambabu of Bhogaon, Mainpuri district, was also arrested.Santosh Kumar Mishra, superintendent of police, Fatehgarh, said, “The ‘Kacha Baniyan gang’ was involved in 19 robberies, dacoities and loot cases. Twelve of them were in Kannauj, six in Fatehgarh and one in Etah district. The team that busted the gang also managed to recover gold jewellery worth Rs 7 lakh.”Explaining the gang’s modus operandi, the SP said, “Before executing the dacoity at night, the gang would first conduct a recce of it in the day hours. Later in the evening, after food, drinks and prayers, the gang would barge inside homes and hold their victims hostage to rob their valuables.”“Last week, in Kampil police jurisdiction of Fatehgarh district, these men robbed several lakhs worth of valuables from three homes and brutally injured four persons, including two women. Later, they sold the robbed booty to a Mainpuri-based jeweller,” added Mishra.Police also recovered two country-made pistols along with club sticks used by gang to rob their victims.
