Shivam’s family members reached the spot and identified his body.According to sub inspector Rajendra Kumar Sharma at Lodha police station, the body has been sent for a post-mortem. That is why, no one tried to stop him as he stormed out, expecting him to return after cooling down.

Agra: A 13-year-old preferred to embrace death than attend school. Sitting through never-ending classes, listening to teachers and bowing to discipline proved to be such an ordeal for Shivam Kumar that when reprimanded for skipping school, he allegedly hanged himself from a neem tree, 1.5 km from his house. The body was found on Friday morning.The incident happened at Mohkumpur Jyani village of Aligarh.According to police, Shivam Kumar, a student of Class VI, was playing in his house on Thursday evening when his elder brother, Kaushal Kumar, asked why had he not gone to school for the past few days. Without answering, Shivam tried to walk away, only to be scolded by his mother, Kusma Devi, who was standing there and overheard Kaushal.The boy immediately left the house in a huff. No one in the family thought much about it as Shivam had done so earlier too. That is why, no one tried to stop him as he stormed out, expecting him to return after cooling down. But, this time the family was wrong.Family members said Shivam used to run away from the house whenever someone confronted him about missing school.Talking with TOI, Shivam’s uncle Yashpal Singh said his nephew left the house on Thursday evening. In fact, Shivam rode off on his father’s cycle. His father used the cycle to ferry things and kept a small length of rope to tie things on the rear carrier. The boy used the same rope for hanging himself from a neem tree.Singh said hours passed but Shivam did not come back home. Anxious family members started searching for him, going to all possible places where he used to go, but failed to trace him.On Friday, around 7 am, a local farmer on way to his field saw the boy’s body hanging from the tree. He immediately informed other residents of the village. Shivam’s family members reached the spot and identified his body.According to sub inspector Rajendra Kumar Sharma at Lodha police station, the body has been sent for a post-mortem. No case had been registered till filing of this report. He said police are waiting for the post-mortem report.
