Central Hindi Institute laying foundation of Hindi in Sikkim

Agra: Hindi Diwas on Friday was celebrated with enthusiasm at the Central Hindi Institute (CHI) headquarters in Agra with eight other centers in different parts of the country. Last year, the government of Sikkim took the decision to teach Hindi in schools from class 1 onwards. So far it has produced over 1 lakh Hindi teachers. Since then it has been a top-notch Hindi learning center in the country. CHI is playing major role in the promotion of Hindi in states where people speak in other languages.

Agra: Hindi Diwas on Friday was celebrated with enthusiasm at the Central Hindi Institute (CHI) headquarters in Agra with eight other centers in different parts of the country. CHI is playing major role in the promotion of Hindi in states where people speak in other languages. It is also training non-Hindi speaking teachers in the language. Last year, the government of Sikkim took the decision to teach Hindi in schools from class 1 onwards. Taking responsibility, CHI has developed course books for the north-eastern state.Professor Nand Kishore Pandey, director of Kendriya Hindi Sansthan, said, “In the schools in Sikkim, students started learning Hindi as a part of their curriculum from class 6 onwards. Now it has been introduced from class 1. The government of Sikkim assigned responsibility to develop new books for young students to the CHI. The course content was created with the help of local experts. A guidebook has also been prepared for assistance of teachers to ensure better learning of the language among students.”The CHI in Agra was established in 1961. Since then it has been a top-notch Hindi learning center in the country. It has been making targeted efforts to promote Hindi in states where majority of the people speak other languages on daily basis. So far it has produced over 1 lakh Hindi teachers. Every year 400 candidates from different parts of the country are provided teachers training.This year students from 27 countries will learn Hindi at CHS Agra. The institute have annual intake of 100 foreign students. This year the students have come from Sri Lanka, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Bangladesh, China, Afghanistan, Armenia, Romania, Russia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Chad, Egypt, Guinea, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Mangolia, Poland, Philippines, Tajikistan, Suriname, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. For the first time students from central African country of Cameroon has taken admission. So far 50 students have reported on campus.On Friday, an elaborate program took place at the CHI on occasion of the Hindi Divas. Students from foreign countries participated in the program with high enthusiasm. They recited poems, made speeches and staged dance and signing performances.
