Mayor sets target of planting 10k trees in 15 days

Agra: Mayor Naveen Jain on Sunday declared a 15-day plantation campaign, which will start on Monday and continue till Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. Tree guards will be installed to protect the plants.On Monday, the mayor will kick off the campaign by planting trees along with school children in Wazirpura locality. Under the campaign “Tham Lo Hariyali”, 10,000 trees of different varieties will be planted on both sides of several main roads as well as on dividers. We will also take the help of different organizations and schools.”“A private firm has been assigned the responsibility of planting the trees and installing the tree guards through tender process. The firm will provide water, nutrients and will take care of the maintenance of the trees for the next three years.

Under the campaign “Tham Lo Hariyali”, 10,000 trees of different varieties will be planted on both sides of several main roads as well as on dividers. They will also be planted at schools and selected public places, including parks. Tree guards will be installed to protect the plants.On Monday, the mayor will kick off the campaign by planting trees along with school children in Wazirpura locality. Tree guards will also be installed around the saplings planted on dividers of the main road.Jain said, “Along with officials of the civic body, all municipal councilors will actively participate in the plantation campaign. We will also take the help of different organizations and schools.”“A private firm has been assigned the responsibility of planting the trees and installing the tree guards through tender process. The firm will provide water, nutrients and will take care of the maintenance of the trees for the next three years. This has been done to ensure that the plants do not die due to lack of proper maintenance and develop to help the environment. The payment to the firm will be made after three years on the basis of the number of surviving trees,” he said.Following a ground assessment, the Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) has identified the roads to be covered under the campaign. This includes the main road connecting Balkeshwar crossing with the historic shiv temple in the locality, all roads in Kamla Nagar, Wazirpura road, Devri road and Jagdishpura- Bodla road.A variety of trees will be planted on the MG road dividers from Bhagwan Talkies crossing to Pratap Pura. Five other road stretches are also there in the targeted plan. Besides this, trees will also be planted in parks and vacant spaces in Hariparwat, Chatta, Lohamandi and Tajganj zones of the city.Mayor Jain, along with municipal commissioner Arun Prakash and additional municipal commissioner Vijay Kumar appealed to the social, educational, business and industrial organizations for support in the plantation campaign to develop green cover in the city.
