Shambhulal Regar, arrested for lynching Muslim man, likely to contest 2019 polls

AGRA: Shambhulal Regar (35), the man arrested for burning and lynching of a Muslim man last year in Rajasthan’s Rajsamand is likely to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha Polls from Agra. Later, Regar’s video message went viral in which he stated that he had burnt the man to “save a girl from love jihad”. He further said Mayawati too should come forward to support him.Dismissing the charges against Regar as “routine”, he said “many parliamentarians are facing serious cases”. He said after Yogi Adityanath came to state politics, no vocal votary of Hinduatva is left in the parliament and Regar will fill this void. He said, Regar is not being supported by other political parties as he killed a muslim, a community which is treated as a strong vote bank by each party.He said, if the BJP claims to be supportive of Dalits, they should come forward and support him.

He has been offered a ticket by the controversial leader and and chairperson of Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena Amit Jani.For those who may have forgotten, in December 2017, Regar had hacked to death a Bengali migrant worker, Mohd Afrazul, who was working in Rajsamand, and had burnt him. Later, Regar’s video message went viral in which he stated that he had burnt the man to “save a girl from love jihad”. “Jihadists, leave our country or you will meet the same fate,” he was seen saying in the video.Talking to TOI, Jani, who too has been arrested a couple of times for making provocative statements on social media, said, “Regar is the ideal face of “hindutva” and thus the most suitable person to contest this election”. He said after Yogi Adityanath came to state politics, no vocal votary of Hinduatva is left in the parliament and Regar will fill this void. He said, Regar is not being supported by other political parties as he killed a muslim, a community which is treated as a strong vote bank by each party.He said, if the BJP claims to be supportive of Dalits, they should come forward and support him. He further said Mayawati too should come forward to support him.Dismissing the charges against Regar as “routine”, he said “many parliamentarians are facing serious cases”. He said if Shahbuddin can contest elections then Rager too can as he is innocent until proven guilty.Justifying Regar’s crime, Jani said that he had saved a hindu sister from love jihad.The Agra seat is reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) and is currently held by BJP's Ramshankar Katheria, the chairman of the National Commission of Scheduled Castes (NCSC).
