Pub vandalism: S N Medical College forms high-power committee to probe case against 25 doctors

Speaking to TOI, acting principal Dr P K Maheshwari, head of medicine department, said, “A committee has been formed to investigate against the junior doctors’ involvement in the alleged ruckus and violence that had taken place in the pub. The committee would be headed by Dr S K Mazumdar, Dr Saroj Singh and two other doctors. They will submit their report in 15-20 days to Dr Aneja.”Dr Maheshwari added, “The probe would focus on background checks of the doctors to see if they were criminal reports against any of them or if they have faced any disciplinary action in the past.”On anonymity, a senior doctor of S N Medical College said, “Time has come to bring forth more discipline so that no other doctor of the college gets himself or herself involved in any form of violence or misconduct. The physicians should not indulge in any form of misconduct under any circumstance.”On Wednesday, 11 junior doctors, out of 15, who were booked by police earlier, were granted bail. Complaints were registered against them under IPC sections 147 (riots), 149 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 452 (house-trespass alter preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and section 7 of the Criminal Amendment Act. Earlier, on Tuesday, four doctors were released on bail.According to sources, few of the accused doctors who had suffered injuries during the brawl will appeal in the district court to file an FIR against police and other people.A total of 25 junior doctors were sent to jail on Saturday but 15 of them had managed to get bail on Sunday morning as they were booked under CrPC 151.
