Agra: Amid cries of "fake encounter " by families of Mustakim and Naushad, the two men who were gunned down by the Aligarh police on Thursday morning in front of a group of media persons, their bodies were quietly buried late in the night.Naushad’s sister Heena, who was married to Mustakim last year, was present at the Aligarh burial ground when her brother and husband were laid to rest. “When a person dies, someone from his family performs the last rites with proper rituals. However, we were made to stand in a corner and witness the proceedings like mute spectators,” Heena said, claiming that she and her mother-in-law Shabana were brought to the site minutes before the burial.Abdul Wahid from Atrauli city, where the families of Mustakim and Naushad are based, was called by police to perform the last rites of the two alleged criminals wanted by the police for six murders.When TOI asked Wahid to describe his relation with the deceased men, he said, “I knew Mustakim, but I don’t know the other man.” Asked if Islamic rituals were duly followed by police, he said, “I don’t think all the rituals were followed. I don’t want to say anything that lands me in trouble.” Aligarh police, however, denied these allegations. “The last rites were performed as per Islamic traditions,” Aligarh SP (city) Atul Srivastava said.“After killing my husband and brother, they have now taken my ailing uncle Nafees and my brother-in-law Salman into custody. We are left with no male member in our family,” Heena said.Nizzamuddin, who is the grieving family’s next door neighbour in Atrauli’s Bhainsapara locality, said that Mustakim and Naushad had been staying there for the past one year and had never indulged in any kind of criminal activity.Meanwhile, BJP unit in Aligarh honoured SSP Ajay Kumar Sahini for solving the series of murders in such a short span of time.
