Agra: Etah, Kasganj and Firozabad police on Saturday apprehended eight men and seized liquor and hooch over Rs 55 lakh from the districts.In Etah, two operations were conducted by Dehat and Pilua police forces. Dehat police, along with a SWAT team, raided Purangiri cold storage on GT road and recovered 885 cartons of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) smuggled from Arunachal Pradesh. According to the superintendent of police, Etah, Ashish Tiwari, “A gang of seven men were running an illegal business of smuggling liquor and repacking it with a different brand to sell it in the local market. Our team has seized the re-packing machine and Rs 35 lakh worth of liquor. Three men have been arrested, while four managed to flee.”The three apprehended men were identified as Arvind of Mainpuri district, Rajesh Yadav and Son Singh of Etah district. The absconding were identified as Sunil Singh, Ashish Jadon, Lucca Singh and Bantu Singh.In Pilua police jurisdiction, the team apprehended three men, along with 200 cartons of IMFL smuggled from Haryana in a pick-up truck and two cars. SP Ashish Tiwari said, “During a routine check at Bhadwas border, Pilua police detained three vehicles and found liquor which was being smuggled into the district. The liquor was worth Rs 8 lakh.” The three arrested men were identified as Vikas Sharma of Farrukhabad, Pramod of Mainpuri district and Tejpal Rajput of Firozabad. Police have come across two other men, identified as Rambresh and Rinku of Etah who were local contacts of three smugglers.In Kasganj, Dholna police raided Birhara and Nagla Tayabpur villages and recovered 55 litres of hooch and 500 litres of material used to make it. According to Surendar Singh, SHO of Dholna, “Two men, Bhudev Singh and Surendar, who were running an illegal factory to make hooch, were arrested.”Apart from this, Nasirpur police of Firozabad district seized 220 cartons of IMFL smuggled from Arunachal Pradesh from a pick-up truck. According to Achal Singh, SHO of Nasirpur, “On an anonymous input, our team trailed a pick-up truck near Lakhanpur temple. The driver of the truck managed to flee but our team managed to seize the liquor, whose worth is around Rs 10 lakh.”Meanwhile in Etah, a youth, of around 27 years of age, plunged himself into Bhagipur pond of Etah city jurisdiction. According to eyewitnesses, he was heavily inebriated.
