Agra: A group of National Students Union of India ( NSUI ) members burnt an effigy of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University vice-chancellor Arvind Kumar Dixit near Shaheed Smarak here on Monday afternoon as a mark of protest against university administration’s “saffronisation campaign”.Student leaders also raised objections to installation of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay’s statue on Paliwal Park campus.The protests were held a day before governor Ram Naik, who is also chancellor of Agra university, and chief minister Yogi Adityanath are scheduled to visit the varsity’s Paliwal Park campus for unveiling the 12-foot-tall statute of Pt Deendayal Upadhyay on Tuesday.University public relations officer GS Sharma said, “Chief minister Yogi Adityanath and governor Ram Naik will reach Paliwal Park campus at 12:35 pm They will unveil a statue of philosopher and former student of Agra University, Pt Deendayal Upadhyay. Besides this, a seven-day workshop on cast iron statue making will be inaugurated.”Former NSUI district president Deepak Sharma said, “On orders of the VC, color of marksheet has been changed to saffron. And plans are afoot to install a statue of the founder member of Bharatiya Jana Sangh (forerunner of BJP) Deendayal Upadhyay.“Our main objection is that thousands of students are suffering due to delay in issuance of marksheets and degree certificate but university administration is focusing on running a right-wing agenda. We will continue our protest in this regard.”NSUI worker Ankur Gautam said, “For raising questions against VC’s saffronization campaign and financial malpractices taking place in the university, admissions of several students have been cancelled by the varsity administration. We will continue our protest against the dictatorship of the VC.”Throughout the day, roads were repaired and renovation work was undertaken around Paliwal Park campus.
