AGRA: Nirmohi Akhara , one of the main litigants in Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit, has threatened nationwide stir over “arrest” of a prominent Hindu seer who was on an indefinite fast to press for early construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya Mahant Paramhans Das, the chief priest of Tapaswi Chhawni temple in Ayodhya, was detained by police on Sunday night. According to Faizabad police, the seer’s condition was deteriorating and he needed to be hospitalised. Das is on a fast since October 1 for “fixing of a deadline by the Central government for construction of Ram temple”. Das has also announced a schedule for the construction of the temple in Ayodhya.Uttar Pradesh government representatives held several rounds of talks with Mahant Das, but failed to persuade him to break the fast. On late Sunday night, Faizabad police picked him from his temple in Ayodhya. The police team took him to a Faizabad hospital, just a few hours ahead of his meeting with former VHP chief Praveen Togadia.On Monday morning, in Mathura, Nirmohi Akhara’s spokesperson Mahant Seeta Ramdas said that the police action is “murder of democracy”.“Police took away Mahant like a terrorist. He was not picked up for treatment. He is being threatened and tortured,” the spokesperson alleged. He questioned that how police came to know that his condition was deteriorating in the middle of night.“The Mahant does not need medicines for improvement of his health, but construction of Ram temple,” he said.“If he is not released by police, the Akhara members including Digambar, Santoshi and Mahanirvani, will start protest from Delhi to Kanyakumari,” he said.
