Agra: Four persons died and five others were injured after the car they were travelling in rammed into a truck on Agra-Lucknow expressway early on Monday. The travellers belong to the same family and are based in east Delhi’s Gokulpuri.According to police, the accident occurred around 4.45 am when the driver of the vehicle fell asleep and hit the rear side of the moving truck near milestone 35 of the expressway, under Agra’s Fatehabad police jurisdiction.The deceased were identified as Echha Kumar Gupta (45), his wife Rekha Gupta (44), daughter Preeti Gupta (22), and another relative Vipin Gupta alias Mishu (25).The injured were identified as Govind Gupta, Ankit Gupta, Mohini Gupta, Nandu Gupta and Shyamsavita. Though the driver of the truck fled the spot, the injured were taken to a government hospital in Agra.According to police, the victims were travelling to Etawah to attend an engagement ceremony at Nayakpur village.Speaking with TOI, acting in-charge of Fatehabad police station Durgesh Kumar Sengar said, “The family had left Delhi on Monday around 12 am and were heading for an engagement ceremony. Echha Gupta was driving the car and he probably fell asleep. As a result, he rammed the car into the rear side of a truck.”“The accident was so horrific that two victims were thrown out of the car while Echha’s blood-soaked body was trapped in the mangled remains of the vehicle. We were only able to recover his body after using a gas-cutter,” the SHO added.
