Treatment of the water will start within this week and in the next 10 days, 60 cusec Ganga water will be supplied to Agra households from the Sikandara water treatment plant.Under the central government’s Gangajal project , Agra will get Ganga water from Palra headworks in Bulandshahr's Upper Ganga canal. Yamuna water, being highly polluted with toxins, needs to be diluted by Ganga water. The quality of Ganga water was far better as compared to Yamuna water flowing in Agra. Jal Nigam targets to start domestic supply of 140 cusec of Ganga water to Agra by the end of next month. The treatment of raw Yamuna water takes place at two water works stations in the city: Jeevani Mandi and Sikandra.
