Ganga water supply in Agra to start within 10 days

Treatment of the water will start within this week and in the next 10 days, 60 cusec Ganga water will be supplied to Agra households from the Sikandara water treatment plant.Under the central government’s Gangajal project , Agra will get Ganga water from Palra headworks in Bulandshahr 's Upper Ganga canal. Yamuna water, being highly polluted with toxins, needs to be diluted by Ganga water. The quality of Ganga water was far better as compared to Yamuna water flowing in Agra. Jal Nigam targets to start domestic supply of 140 cusec of Ganga water to Agra by the end of next month. The treatment of raw Yamuna water takes place at two water works stations in the city: Jeevani Mandi and Sikandra.

AGRA: It’s good news for Agra residents. The Sikandara water works station has been connected to the breaking pressure tank (BPT) near the Mathura border and 60 cusec Ganga water has reached the plant. Treatment of the water will start within this week and in the next 10 days, 60 cusec Ganga water will be supplied to Agra households from the Sikandara water treatment plant.Under the central government’s Gangajal project , Agra will get Ganga water from Palra headworks in Bulandshahr 's Upper Ganga canal. Around 130 km of pipeline, of 1600 mm radius, has been laid for the purpose. Jal Nigam targets to start domestic supply of 140 cusec of Ganga water to Agra by the end of next month. The remaining 80 cusec will be supplied from Jeevani Mandi Jal Sansthan, once the facility is fully fixed. Repair of a 90 MLD plant at Jeevani Mandi is expected to take two to three months.According to Jal Nigam officails, Ganga water will be supplied to Sikandra water works station through the BPT. The Sikandra station has been connected to the BPT and the Jal Nigam has sorted out technical issues with air vends in the main supply line. The main function of the BPT is to regulate pressure of the water coming to Agra from Palra headworks. It takes 60 hours for water to reach Agra from Bulandshahr.Agra south MLA Yogendra Upadhyay, who is supervising the Gagajal project said, “On Monday, 90 million liters of water was supplied to the water treatment facility at Sikandra through the BPT. The quality of Ganga water was far better as compared to Yamuna water flowing in Agra. We are working to ensure that the cleaning of Sikandra plant is completed within this week and household supply of Ganga water starts within 10 days.”The MLA has sought time from chief minister Yogi Adityanath to inaugurate Ganga water supply in the city.Agra is mainly dependent on the Yamuna for water. Under the Gangajal project, the city will now get Ganga water as well. Yamuna water, being highly polluted with toxins, needs to be diluted by Ganga water.
