UP dist to have cow census cops to invoke NSA for cow slaughter

AGRA: On Wednesday, Kasganj district police called for a cow census at a public gathering in Bhargain village under Patiyali police jurisdiction called by the superintendent of police (SP) of Kasganj to discuss means to curb cow slaughter.SP Ashok Kumar Shukla said, “After discussions with the district magistrate, it has been decided that every village in the district will maintain a register and will add the names of persons or families owning cows. The register will also have details about the number of cows a person has. Further, every gram panchayat would have a ‘Gaurakshan Samiti’ whose members will be gram pradhan, village watchman, lekhpal, panchayat secretary, beat sub inspector and a beat constable. If slaughtering a cow hurts a community, then everyone must come together and prevent it. We are ready to fully cooperate in order to conduct the cow census.”“The Gaurakshan Samiti will maintain the register for every village. A person who owns a cow will have to share details about his or her bovine. The register will also record purchase, sale, death, birth and ways and practices of cremating a cow after its death,” Khan added.
