The accused allegedly involved in riots were ironically made government witnesses against the 24 accused named in the Chandan Gupta alias Abhishek murder case.Anukalp Chauhan and Saurabpal, who surrendered in court after the riots, were made witnesses although they were charged under serious sections of IPC, including 147 (punishment for rioting), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship, with intent to insult the religion of any class), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 7 CLA Act.Anukalp Chauhan, 26, is the chairperson of Sankalp Foundation.
