Aligarh: A senior PCS officer in Uttar Pradesh turned the tenets of crowd control on their head. Quite literally.Facing the task of keeping engaged over 400 restive beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) who were waiting to collect their allotment letters at the collectorate ground on Sunday morning, Aligarh’s chief development officer (CDO) Dinesh Chandra Singh gave them a 45-minute lecture and demonstration on yoga.He not only apprised them about the benefits of various ‘asanas’, but also performed several of them, including, of course, ‘shirshasana’. People, who were getting restless because of the delay in the arrival of the commissioner and DM, loved this gesture and several of them joined the impromptu yoga session. On Sunday morning, these beneficiaries had assembled on the collectorate campus to receive their certificates from divisional commissioner Ajay deep Singh, DM CB Singh and BJP leader RP Singh. As they didn’t turn up well after the scheduled time, people started getting restless. It was then that CDO Singh who was already at the venue decided to keep them engaged till the three guests arrived. He immediately took off his coat and started performing various ‘asnas’, with his two-minute ‘shirshashana’ being the clincher. “For the next 45 minutes, the collectorate campus turned into a temporary yoga centre and the people forgot what they had arrived for,” says a DM office employee. As many of them joined the yoga session, the CDO taught them abut the right postures and gave Rs 100 reward to those who did ‘asnas’ correctly. Talking to TOI, Singh said that he had been doing such kind of motivational things for several years. “This was not only to engage public, but to provide some fruitful knowledge to them,” he said, claiming that there was no delay in the program.“I reached before time so started doing yoga,” he said, adding that he had been doing ‘shirshashana’ since class VI and claimed that he could do this for 20 minutes without a break. “You can motivate people for anything by doing on your own and that is what I do,” said Singh. He said he’s very health conscious and serves only seasonal fruits and Indian gooseberry (amla) to his guest in winters. On Sunday also, he distributed gooseberry to all the beneficiaries who had come to receive their allotment letters.
