Fake forms of PM’s Beti Bachao scheme sold for Rs 100, claim residents

Agra: In what is suspected to be a continuation of the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scam, the forms for which surfaced across the country in the recent years, city residents here have alleged that fraudsters have been distributing such forms for a fee of Rs 100 each claiming that a financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh will be provided by the Union government under the scheme. The issue came to light when the applicants approached local councillors for verification of forms.According to sources, the parents are told that the form would entitle them to cash benefits worth Rs 2 lakh each in the name of their daughters. The ‘guidelines’ printed on the application state that girls and women aged between 8 and 32 years are eligible for the financial assistance. The application form does not bear any logo of the state or central government. An estimated 30,000 such forms were distributed virtually across all districts of UP in the recent years.District social welfare officer Paritosh Kumar said, “There is no financial assistance under the central government’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme. The public should be wary of such fraudsters and check the social welfare department’s website for information about various government schemes.”Additional district magistrate (city) KP Singh said, “We have not received any formal complaint in this regard so far.
