AMU teachers slam booking 14 students under sedition charges urge President to take cognisance

AGRA: While condemning sedition cases against 14 AMU students , the Aligarh Muslim University Teachers’ Association AMUTA ) has urged the President of India Ram Nath Kovind to take suo motu cognisance in the matter and direct the authorities to deal the matter without any bias.AMUTA passed a unanimous resolution on Wednesday evening strongly condemning the serious sedition charges and others levelled against the AMU students.According to resolution, the members urged the President of India, who is also the university’s visitor to take suo muto cognisance and send a strong message or directive to the nation that serious charges like “sedition” should be evoked only after thorough inquiry and not with in a few hours of the alleged incident.Talking to TOI, AMUTA’s secretary, Prof Najmul Islam said that this was an unfortunate incident which appears to have been carried out in order to disturb the peaceful and conducive atmosphere of the university campus.On Tuesday, some AMU students allegedly had an altercation with a TV channel crew and BJP youth wing leaders during the protest against the proposed visit of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen leader Asaduddin Owaisi to AMU campus.
