Agra: Fearing that he will be arrested, 28-year-old Bhole Shankar, accused of theft by his neighbour, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Jatpura village in Aligarh on Monday.According to police, Shankar was accused of stealing Rs 2,000 and a mobile phone by his neighbour, Ram Babu. When police went to his house, he locked himself up in his room and did not open the door despite repeated knocking by police.Later, Ram Babu allegedly bolted the room from outside to prevent Shankar from escaping.

However, when the room was opened this morning around 6 am, it was unlocked from inside and the youth was found hanging from the ceiling.Police said it was evident that the accused had tried to open the door from inside before taking the extreme step. As he was unable to go outside, he ended his life, said a police officer. A liquor bottle was also recovered from the spot.Circle officer, Barla, Devi Gulam said an FIR has been registered against Shankar’s neighbour under IPC section 306 (abetment of suicide) on the basis of a complaint filed by the deceased’s father. Gulam said the body has been sent for post-mortem and further investigations are on. He added that more IPC sections could be added to the FIR after knowing the exact cause of death.
