AMC to clean up city before ‘Holika dahan’ today

AGRA: Agra Municipal Corporation ( AMC ) administration will run a special cleanliness drive on the occasion of Choti Holi on Wednesday. For this, leaves of all sanitation workers have been cancelled. Its focus will be on cleaning up spots where the mythical Holikas will be set on fire. According to civic body officials, there are around 1,000 major Holikas that will be set afire across 100 wards in the city.From early Wednesday morning, sanitation workers will be deployed to clean up the city. The white lime power not only acts as a disinfectant but absorbs foul smell besides being used as a marker.AMC executive engineer (environment) Rajiv Rathi said, “Special cleanliness drive will be conducted in the city on Wednesday.

Their brief includes clearing choked drains and sprinkling of lime powder along borders of roads. The white lime power not only acts as a disinfectant but absorbs foul smell besides being used as a marker.AMC executive engineer (environment) Rajiv Rathi said, “Special cleanliness drive will be conducted in the city on Wednesday. Additional work will be done for maintenance of sanitation and hygiene during the festival. Extra vehicles will be deployed for lifting garbage from different parts of the city, taken and dumped in Kuberpur landfill site.”Rathi added that AMC had been receiving complaints that silt extracted from nullahs had not been cleared. “All this will be cleared on Wednesday. Besides chocked drains in the colonies will be unclogged. In this regard, directions have been issued to sanitation inspectors,” said Rathi.Municipal commissioner Arun Prakash said, “The special cleanliness works have been planned to ensure standard cleanliness around Holikas where people perform religious rituals and offer prayers. This will promote healthy atmosphere during the festival.”
