No nomination filed in Agra dist on first day, 39 forms issued

AGRA: No candidate filed their papers on the first day of the Lok Sabha election nomination process on Tuesday. Leaders of BJP, Congress, Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Lok Samta Party, Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party, Ambedkarite Party of India, Rashtriya Samaj Party reached the collectorate for nomination forms. However, 39 candidates and their representatives contesting from the Agra and Fatehpur Sikri seats collected nomination forms. According to election officials, 14 nomination forms were issued for Agra seat and 25 for Fatehpur Sikri. This time, candidates have three days (12 hours) left to file their nominations.On Tuesday, the nomination process started amid tight security at 11 am and ended at 3 pm, as scheduled.

Leaders of BJP, Congress, Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Lok Samta Party, Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party, Ambedkarite Party of India, Rashtriya Samaj Party reached the collectorate for nomination forms. However, a majority of those who received the forms did not belong to any political party and intend to contest as independents.As March 21 will be a holiday on account of Holi and March 23 and March 24 are Saturday and Sunday respectively, candidates will have March 22, 25 and 26 to file nominations.So far, no political party has formally declared a candidate for either of the two seats in Agra district. Major parties are likely to delay declaration of candidates, which in turn may cause a rush in the filing of nominations in the last two days.Assistant district election officer, Bharat Singh had told TOI on Monday, “After end of the nomination process on March 26, the returning officers will check the nomination forms submitted by candidates on March 27 and 28. On March 29, candidates will have a chance to withdraw their names. After that, the final list of candidates will be announced”.
