Notice to 12 tax officials for poor recovery of property tax

Just nine days are left for the 2018-19 financial year to end, and Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) is nearly Rs 12 crore short of the Rs 55 crore target.
Earlier, a city-wide survey found that majority of the 500 hotels operating in the city were not registered with the civic body and had not paid property tax on commercial rates.
Agra: The municipal commissioner of Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) has issued notices to 12 tax officials for their failure in not meeting the targeted revenue collection from property tax so far and has directed them to ensure that the goal is met withing the next one week.
AMC should have collected at least Rs 50 crore in house tax by March 15 but even after six days of delay, only Rs 43 crore has been collected as on Friday.According to councilor Rakesh Jain, “The pace of house tax recovery is very slow.
