MSY to file nomination from Mainpuri on April 1

AGRA: Samajwadi Party (SP) patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav ( MSY ) will file his nomination papers for Mainpuri Lok Sabha (LS) constituency on April 1. Earlier, Shivpal had announced that he would file his nomination papers on April 1.According to party workers, ‘Netaji’ will reach Saifai a day before filing nomination papers. In the 2009 LS polls, Mulayam won the Mainpuri seat by a margin of over 1.6 lakh votes.Shivpal has already announced that he won’t field any candidate against MSY in Mainpuri. He will also address a public meeting.Confirming this, sitting MP Tej Pratap Yadav and election in-charge for the Mainpuri constituency, said that ‘Netaji’ will file his nomination papers on April 1 and all arrangements are being made for the occasion. He will perform prayers and ‘hawan’ before heading to the poll office for filing his nomination on April 1.MSY currently represents the Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency.

He added that a public meeting will be held at the ground opposite the party office, as people usually expect him to interact with them whenever he is around.A ‘historic’ grand rally to showcase the SP-BSP alliance’s strength will be held in Mainpuri on April 19, when MSY will share the dais with BSP chief Mayawati after two decades.In fact, MSY’s estranged brother Shivpal Yadav, who formed his own party Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party-Lohia (PSPL) last year, has preponed the date of filing his own nomination papers from Firozabad on March 30. Earlier, Shivpal had announced that he would file his nomination papers on April 1.According to party workers, ‘Netaji’ will reach Saifai a day before filing nomination papers. He had represented Mainpuri thrice earlier - in 1996, 2004 and 2009. In the last LS polls, Mulayam had contested and won from two seats. His victory margin was only 63,204 in Azamgarh, where he defeated Ramakant Yadav, as compared to a whopping lead of 3.64 lakh, against Shatrughan Singh Chauhan, in Mainpuri. In the 2009 LS polls, Mulayam won the Mainpuri seat by a margin of over 1.6 lakh votes.Shivpal has already announced that he won’t field any candidate against MSY in Mainpuri. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is an ally this time while the BJP and Congress have not announced their candidates yet.
