The letter bears the sign of one professor named Ashish Sharma, associate dean-academics affairs. However, college authorities say no person with that name is a member of the faculty.

In a mischievous act, a fake notice on the official letterhead of a prestigious college asking girl students to compulsorily have at least one boyfriend before Valentine`s Day was widely circulated on social media. The letter reads "single girls would not be allowed to enter the college premises." Meanwhile, the principal of St John`s College in Agra said no such directives were issued and that the letter is fake. The matter is being probed, he said.
The letter with the heading "attention students" that has gone viral on social media reads: “It is mandatory for all girls to have at least one boyfriend by 14 February. This has been done for security purposes. Single girl students will not be allowed to enter the college premises. They will have to show a recent picture with their boyfriend. Spread love.”

The letter bears the sign of one professor named Ashish Sharma, associate dean-academics affairs. However, college authorities say no person with that name is a member of the faculty.

Professor SP Singh, principal of St John’s College, said, “It has come to the notice of the college administration that some mischievous elements have been wrongfully circulating a message, addressed to students, in the name of college authorities. This is unlawful and unauthorised and those involved in the mischief will face action.”

“This is absolutely against the tradition of the college, and the intent of the miscreants, it seems, is to tarnish the good name and reputation of the college. Students are asked to ignore such unauthorised information. The college authorities will find out those responsible for the act and would punish the offenders accordingly,” said the principal.
St John’s College is one of the oldest educational institutions in Agra, founded in 1850 by the Britishers.
