A married woman and a youth, belonging to the same community, were publicly humiliated by fellow villagers by blackening their faces, tonsuring the head of the man and were forced to wear a garland of shoes in Agra’s Jakha village on Friday for allegedly having an affair.
The couple was paraded by the villagers after they were thrashed with shoes as a punishment. A purported video of 49 seconds of this episode has gone viral on social media. Acting on it, Achnera police have registered an FIR into the matter under relevant sections of IPC including section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt).

Station house officer of Achnera police station said, Udaiveer Malik, that whosoever was involved in this act will be arrested soon. He said, as per the information, the married woman in her late 20s had disappeared from her house a month ago and had returned to the village with local youth on Friday morning.

Locals claimed that the duo was in an illicit relationship and when the woman’s husband got to know about this, they had shifted to Tajganj area. The woman, however, disappeared from there a month ago and was spotted with the same youth in the village, where they were thrashed and humiliated publicly by local residents.
