To regain the pearl shine of the tomb, mud pack therapy to be done for 6 months.

Several laborers again have to climb the top of the historic tomb, in UP`s Agra, i.e Taj Mahal as they will have to apply mud packs on the mausoleum’s huge main dome to regain its original pearl white shine.

The work is likely to begin from October of this year and is expected to continue for the next six months, during which the dome will remain under scaffoldings. It is for the first time that the main dome will undergo mud packs where for the other six times the other toms were treated.

The mud pack therapy is similar to the glow skin therapy one uses.

Superintending archeologist (science branch) of Archeological Survey of India’s (ASI) Agra MK Bhatnagar said, “We had plans to start it after the monsoon season. But weather conditions have to be favorable. The cleaning cannot be carried out in high humidity. Covid-19 pandemic is also one of the factors that will have to be considered, as it will directly impact the availability of manpower that time."

Officials said the process of cleaning will take over six months and the entire project will be costing around 50 Lakh.

The pack contains a thick layer of lime-rich clay is plastered over the affected surface and left to dry,” said an official, adding that when it dries the flakes are removed from the surface with a soft brush. Then it is washed with water and finally with distilled water to clean the impurities.
