Man, 23, beaten to death by girlfriend`s dad & bro

AGRA: The body of a 23-year-old man from Agra district, who was allegedly beaten to death by his girlfriends family, was recovered from a field in Mathura on Tuesday.The victim, Govind Kumar, was involved in a romantic relationship with 20-year-old Rakhi, a resident of Saun village, Mathura. On getting a phone call from his girlfriend, Govind went to her home on Monday. Upon arrival, he was allegedly stripped naked, bound to a tree in an open field, and beaten to death.According to the police, the preliminary investigation suggests this incident is related to honour killing. "Based on the complaint filed against the girl, her father Shiv Singh and brother Sunil Singh, we registered an FIR under IPC sections 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of an offence committed) and 302 (murder)," said Pushpendra Kumar, SHO, Magora police station. He further added, "The accused have confessed to the crime and have been remanded to jail following court orders."Police sources indicate that the girl was coerced into luring Govind to her home by her father and brother. Despite warnings, Govind maintained contact with her, and they had plans to marry. A mangalsutra was found in Govinds possession."A postmortem examination revealed that Govind was beaten with sticks, resulting in multiple fractures in his skull and limbs," said a senior police officer.Satendra Kumar, the deceaseds younger brother, said, "Govind had been in a relationship with the girl for approximately 18 months. They used to communicate over the phone and meet secretly. The girl also wished to marry Govind, but her family vehemently opposed their relationship. My brother was killed in a premeditated manner."Local villagers disclosed that Govind worked at a Dabha near the village and frequently visited his relatives there. The girls father and brother were engaged in farming, while Govinds family faced financial hardships, with his father and two elder brothers working as labourers. It is noteworthy that both the boy and the girl belong to the same community. TNN
