AGRA: A 22-year-old man, who had earlier worked as a porter for the Indian Army for nine months in Arunachal Pradesh, was arrested on Tuesday by the Anti Terror Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh police on the charges of spying for Pakistans Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Shailesh Kumar, alias Shailendra Kumar Chauhan, a resident of Kasganj district, had worked on a contractual basis for two months in 2020 and for seven months in 2021. "Kumar is currently not associated with the Indian Army, but he claims in his social media profile that he is still working with the Army," said a police officer. UP ATS chief Mohit Agarwal said, "Kumar came in touch with a woman named Harleen Kaur (pseudonym used by an ISI handler) through Facebook. He started chatting with Kaur on Messenger. He also started interacting with another alleged ISI handler called Preeti on WhatsApp." The officer said Preeti told Kumar that she worked for ISI and that he would be given a handsome amount if he cooperated with her. "Shailesh then started sending pictures of locations of important Army installations and movements of vehicles to Preeti. He would also send the same information to Kaur. He received money from ISI handlers through UPI several times," Agarwal said. Kumar has been booked under sections 121 (A) [for conspiring to wage war against the country] and 171 [impersonating a public servant] of IPC and section 13 [abetting, inciting or taking part in unlawful activity] of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. A resident of village Ginholi under Patiyali police station of Kasganj district, Shailesh is the second youngest among five brothers and two sisters. His father, a marginal farmer, died 15 years ago. One of his elder brothers is an Army soldier, currently posted in Rajasthans Jodhpur. Deepak.Lavania
