Train jumps tracks at Mathura junction, climbs onto platform

Agra: In a freak accident, a train arriving from Delhi derailed and climbed onto a platform at Mathura junction on Tuesday night. The train stopped after climbing onto platform 2A and colliding with the electric pole. While one woman passenger suffered electric shock, no casualties were reported, railway authorities confirmed. Five railway staffers, including the loco pilot of the train, have been suspended.According to authorities, the electrical multiple unit (EMU) trains engine caused damage to a section of the platform and an electric pole. Train traffic was disrupted as a piece of overhead equipment (OHE) was severed in the accident.Several videos of the incident, circulated on social media platforms, showed the EMUs engine near the stations signboard. Railway station director SK Srivastava said the train had arrived from Shakur Basti in Delhi to Mathura Junction at 10.49 pm. After all the passengers disembarked, it rolled down the track and climbed onto platform 2A before coming to a stop after hitting the pole.Prashasti Srivastava, divisional commercial manager for Agra division of North Central Railway, said, "A woman, 39-year-old Usha Devi from Jhansi, received electric shock in the incident. She was taken to hospital, where she received first aid before being transferred to Jhansi.Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, chief public relations officer of North Central Railway, said, A high-level enquiry has been ordered into the unusual incident.
