No roof in school, students forced to study on the street

When we complain that we are feeling unwell, the teacher instructs us to take rest,” she added.Head teacher Keerti Dubey said that teachers are forced to take classes on a street next to the school as the school building is unsafe and there is no roof. Because of the crumbling infrastructure in the school, parents want to get their children transferred to other schools having proper facilities. And, because of the hot weather, the number of students has also gone down drastically.According to sources, in more than three schools, classes are held in the open because of the same reason.

Agra: Students of basic shiksha parishad school in Jagdishpura locality of the city are forced to sit on a lane next to the school building to learn their lessons as the structure is in a dilapidated state and has no roof. Teachers said the school building is unsafe and they thought it prudent to take classes in the open as the students at least get to sit in the shade of a wall in this hot season.Teachers said that students often complained about suffering from dehydration, vomiting and other problems as it is very hot outside. And, because of the hot weather, the number of students has also gone down drastically.According to sources, in more than three schools, classes are held in the open because of the same reason. These schools are Upper Primary and Primary School in Jagdishpura Naraini Building, Balak Vidhyalay in Jagdishpura, Primary School in Radha Nagar of Balkeshwar, and another school in Gobar Chowki locality.Sharing her ordeal, Class VIII student of the school in Jagdishura, Saumya Goswami, told TOI, “We are not able to concentrate on our studies as the sun rays falls on us directly, and also because of the extreme hot weather condition.”Annu Kumari, another student of Class VIII, said that most of the students feel sick while studying in the open. “We carry water bottles, and regularly keep fanning ourselves with our textbooks. When we complain that we are feeling unwell, the teacher instructs us to take rest,” she added.Head teacher Keerti Dubey said that teachers are forced to take classes on a street next to the school as the school building is unsafe and there is no roof. One student has already taken a transfer,” she added.A teacher at a primary school at Radha Nagar in Balkeshwar locality, Madhu Rani, also complained that every year, the number of students was going down at this school as the building is in a bad shape. “The classrooms and toilet are in a dilapidated condition. We are forced to hold classes in the open. Moreover, there is no facility for drinking water. Therefore, parents avoid sending their children to our school,” she added.A student of class IV, Dolly Kumari, said, “I, along with my other classmates, sit on the ground under the sky. The weather is hot and it is very difficult to attend classes like this. Also, there is no toilet and no facility for drinking water.”Additional director of basic education Girijesh Chaudhary told TOI that the department is looking to take new buildings on rent so that these schools could be sifted to these structures.TOI tried to contact Agra BSA Dinesh Kumar Yadav over phone for his comment but the official did not respond to the calls.
