Exams delayed, Agra varsity student climbs roof & threatens to jump

Despite efforts by the local police and university administration to convince him to come down, the student refused to budge. Agra: Disappointed over Agra University’s failure to conduct BPEd (bachelor of physical education) examination, a first-year undergraduate student climbed onto the roof of a campus building at Chhalesar and threatened to commit suicide on Friday. He has now come down from the roof and is safe. I have given him and other students a written assurance that all four semester examinations would be conducted as as soon as possible and that the course would be completed as per schedule." He came down later only after a written assurance by the varsity registrar that examinations would be conducted as soon as possible and that the results would not be delayed.The high-octane drama lasted for more than two hours, after which several other students too joined the protest against the university authorities.The student, identified as Ravi Kumar, said that the university was supposed to conduct the examination in November 2016, but so far no exam dates have been announced.

He came down later only after a written assurance by the varsity registrar that examinations would be conducted as soon as possible and that the results would not be delayed.The high-octane drama lasted for more than two hours, after which several other students too joined the protest against the university authorities.The student, identified as Ravi Kumar, said that the university was supposed to conduct the examination in November 2016, but so far no exam dates have been announced. “When I asked the varsity authorities to announce a date for the examination, the registrar, Kaliash Nath Singh, asked me to take back the course fee and leave the university,” he said.“I cannot afford to waste one year and, therefore, took the extreme step to bring the issue to the notice of the authorities,” the student said.A total of 57 BPEd students are in the lurch as their exam dates have been postponed continuously.According to Kailash Nath Singh, “The student was upset due to the delay in examination. He has now come down from the roof and is safe. I have given him and other students a written assurance that all four semester examinations would be conducted as as soon as possible and that the course would be completed as per schedule."
