UGC sets up panel to probe charges against Aligarh Muslim University's VC

The probe team will conduct audit of academics , research, finances and infrastructure of AMU, in pursuance of the ministry's orders dated April 25. The notice, issued on the directions of President Pranab Mukherjee , had sought the VC's response as to why an inquiry may not be instituted . AGRA: The UGC, on the instructions of the Union HRD ministry , has constituted a five-member team to conduct a detailed investigation into allegations of financial, administrative and academic irregularities and mismanagement against Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) vice-chancellor, Lt Gen (retd) Zameer Uddin Shah The UGC's decision to conduct the probe came after the HRD ministry found the VC's response to a show cause notice issued by the President "unsatisfactory". According to the order, the committee will have a month's time to complete its report.A show cause notice was issued to the VC by a deputy secretary of the Union government on October 25, 2016, following complaints of financial, administrative and academic irregularities and mismanagement and "creation of an unhealthy atmosphere" in AMU.
