Aligarh's BJP Mayor and MLA demand ban on carrying of mobiles by school girls

AGRA: Aligarh 's BJP Mayor Shakuntala Bharti , and MLA, Sanjeev Raja have stirred yet another controversy by demanding a ban on carrying of mobile phones by school girls.The duo, who were at the function of a local Uday Singh Inter College at Barah Dwari said young girls do not need mobile phones and they should be banned. "How can mobile be bad for us and good for boys", she asked. "They have to go to school and then back to their homes so what is the need of a mobile phone", they said.When contacted a local school girl, who requested anonymity, said this is again a case of gender bias . They went on to claim that excessive use of mobile phones was one of the reasons why "Aligarh girls were going in wrong hands".Though the two did not elaborate on their statement, they also raised objections about girls covering faces while travelling on scooters and walking on streets. "What is the need for girls to cover their faces", they said adding that parents should ensure that their daughter refrain from such acts.They also advised parents not to give mobile phones to their daughters, as it was not needed.
