Sedition charge against UP youth for ‘obscene’ post lauding Pakistan win

Earlier, on Thursday, Hindu Jagran Manch filed a written complaint against a youth in Agra, alleging that he posted offensive comments against India and celebrated Pakistan's win. "Jalesar station officer Sunil Shrivastav said, "We have filed an FIR against the accused but he is on the run. "According to officials, this is the first sedition charge against a UP resident after the India-Pakistan match. On the complaint of a BJP worker named Pammi Thakur, local police booked the youth under section 124 A (sedition) of the IPC and section 66B of the IT Act. He insulted all 120 crore Indians by posting an objectionable picture in public domain after India lost to Pakistan in the Champions Trophy.

AGRA: Police have charged a youth with sedition for allegedly insulting the national flag and hurting sentiments by posting a highly objectionable picture on Facebook after Pakistan defeated India in the Champions Trophy on June 18.Raja RD Malik , in his early twenties, is a resident of Kasba area under Jalesar police station of Etah district. On the complaint of a BJP worker named Pammi Thakur, local police booked the youth under section 124 A (sedition) of the IPC and section 66B of the IT Act. After the FIR, Malik is on the run, while police raided his home to arrest him.The post had received more than 30 likes, although after the FIR, Malik removed it from his account, officials said.Pammi Thakur, BJP worker who filed a complaint against the youth, said, "Malik crossed all limits. He insulted all 120 crore Indians by posting an objectionable picture in public domain after India lost to Pakistan in the Champions Trophy. We want him to be arrested immediately."Jalesar station officer Sunil Shrivastav said, "We have filed an FIR against the accused but he is on the run. Our teams are trying to trace him. As soon as we arrest him, we will present him before the magistrate for further action."According to officials, this is the first sedition charge against a UP resident after the India-Pakistan match. In that case, however, police refused to file a complaint.Similarly, on the night of June 18, seven youths were booked under Railway Act at Mathura railway station, after co-passengers alleged that they were celebrating Pakistan's win.In Jasrana area of Firozabad, a student leader of Samajwadi Party was sent to jail under section 151 of the CrPC on a complaint by Hindu Jagran Manch members, who alleged that they had posted celebratory messages after Pakistan's victory.
