Tension prevails in Aligarh as neighbours clash over water

AGRA: Communal tension prevailed in Jalali area of Aligarh following a clash between two neighbours belonging to different communities.The clash was sparked off between the families of Baacha Ram and Mohd Ejlal over sharing of water from a tubewell.According to police, trouble started when Baacha Ram Kushwaha refused to give water from his tubewell to his neighbour, Mohd Ejlal, even though they had been sharing it for a long time. He alleged that they misbehaved with the women in the house.Talking to TOI, SSP, Aligarh Rajesh Pandey said the dispute over water took a communal turn when news spread about a Muslim family attacking their Hindu neighbours. Some hindu activist also reached there, he said.Pandey said the situation was under control and police had been deputed in the village. He said cases have been registered against Ejlal, Jafar, Nizam, Abad, Nadeem, Kasim under sections 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, section 147 (riot), section 148 (armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) and 354 B (assault or use of criminal force to women with intent to disrobe). An infuriated Ejlal reportedly reached Baacha Ram's house and allegedly misbehaved with women of his family and also set afire a temporary shed outside the house.Talking to TOI, Baacha Ram said that he had always been giving water from his tubewell to Ejlal for his farm, but yesterday he refused to give, as his own farm was not getting enough water.He said, on Tuesday morning, around 10-15 people, including Nizam and Abad, came with swords, sticks and country-made pistols to his house and attacked him and his family.
