2-minute video of mentally unstable youth getting electrocuted goes viral

Agra: In a horrific two-minute video that has been widely shared on social media, a person with learning difficulty can be seen getting electrocuted to death after he climbed a pole carrying an 11,000 volt line.In the footage, the youth, identified as Sanjay Singh, is found climbing up the pole but when policemen ask him to get down, he grabs the high-tension wire and an explosion occurs. He is then seen flung to the ground where he died instantly, according to officials. The incident took place on Wednesday near the Bodhla roundabout under the Jagdispura police jurisdiction here.Singh, who was in his early 30s, worked as a rickshaw puller and was the sole breadwinner for his elderly parents. Rajeshwar Tyagi, station officer of Jagdispura, said, “Singh had tried to climb an electric pole earlier too but he was rescued. This time, however, the policemen on duty could not save his life.”According to sources, the victim was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the incident and was slapped by a local dairy owner during a quarrel that took place prior to the accident.“We tried to stop Singh too and requested him to come down. But he did not listen to anyone. Later, when police came, he grabbed the high-tension wire and was killed in a massive explosion,” said Mukesh, a local shopkeeper.In another incident, a 15-year-old teenager was electrocuted to death after he came into contact with another 11,000 volt line at Targaon village in Etah around 6.30 am on Thursday. Identified as Satyam, the victim was rushed to a community health centre in Jaithra, where doctors declared him brought dead. The body was later sent for postmortem and a written complaint was lodged against the unidentified employee of DVVNL.Two days ago, three labourers of a private firm hired by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) were electrocuted to death after they came into contact with a high tension wire while cleaning an IOC signboard in Agra. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, 9,889 people had died and 360 were injured due to electrocution across the country in 2015.
