2 killed, 3 injured in ambulance-pickup truck collision

Agra: Two persons were killed and three others injured when a speeding ambulance rammed into a pickup truck on Lucknow-Agra expressway on Friday. According to police, the deceased, who were travelling in the pickup truck, have been identified as Rahul and Mansa Ram of Jaswantnagar in Etawah district, while occupants of the ambulance, Indra Singh, Bijendar and Manjeet, were injured in the accident. An eyewitness said that both the vehicles were heading in the same direction when suddenly the axle of the pickup truck broke and the ambulance crashed into it.The incident occurred around 6:30am near Naveli Kala village of Dauki police jurisdiction. All the victims are said to be in their thirties.The ambulance was ferrying a dead body from Ludhiana to Gorakhpur via Agra-Lucknow expressway, a police officer said, adding that the pick up truck was returning from Sikandra vegetable wholesale market.“The force of the collision was strong that both the vehicles rolled over several times before coming to a halt over 100 metres away from the spot of collision,” an eyewitness said, adding that it took local residents nearly half an hour to rescue the victims.After the incident, dial 100 team and station officer Tej Bahadur Singh of Dauki reached the spot and sent the victims to S N Medical college for first aid.
