Awareness programmes in city from next week to check spread of dengue

Agra: After two cases of dengue were reported earlier this month, district health department is set to organize health awareness programmes for school children from next week. Last year, it was found that most number of dengue cases were reported from slums and villages. Medical officials will visit different blocks and hold the programme. According to doctors at S N Medical College, more than 50 cases of dengue are suspected, although none have been confirmed till now.

An official said that they will continue organizing such events till the monsoon season.A dengue and malaria defence program was held here on Thursday where health officials alerted people about spread of vector-borne diseases during monsoon season. Officials said that the Agra Municipal Corporation has been informed to carry out intensive fogging operations to prevent spread of dengue and malaria.Chief medical officer B S Yadav said, “Two cases of dengue have been confirmed till now but no deaths have been reported. Last year, it was found that most number of dengue cases were reported from slums and villages. We have contacted all block education officials in this regard. They have been asked to instruct teachers to spread awareness on vector-borne diseases.”A drive will be organized by medical officials next week to avoid spread of diseases. “Anti-larval sprays were used around the city in June and last week. Another round of sparying will take place in August. We have asked teachers to make instruct children to wear full sleeve shirts and trousers as uniforms. Water should be covered. People should not consume water kept in open containers for long. We have asked teachers to clean coolers thoroughly this season,” Yadav added.Till now, two cases of dengue have been reported at community medical centre in Bichpura area, officials said.Last year, around 50 cases of dengue and 19 cases of chikungunya were reported till October. According to doctors at S N Medical College, more than 50 cases of dengue are suspected, although none have been confirmed till now.
