Beg said that students whose admissions were cancelled had done of Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and thus were not eligible for the political science course. He also alleged that the argument flared up following which Aaftab Alam and Prof Naseem Ahmed took out a knife and tried to stab him. "When we asked the professor as to why the students were being punished with denial of admission due to errors of the authorities, he got angry," he said. He said that they had been admitted due to a "technical errors" and thus their admissions were cancelled.Meanwhile, the police have registered counter complaints against the professor and the students. He said Gazi had accidentally hit his hand on a glass window while leaving his room and had cooked up the story to mislead the authorities.Chairman of political science department Prof Asmar Beg that while the students whose admissions had been cancelled had made no objections, the union leaders were trying to take up an unnecessary controversy.
