AGRA: The cheerful night of Janmashtami turned into deadly nightmare for a family, who lost their eight-year-old son, after he fell into an open manhole The incident took place in front of 'Hotel Delux Inn' on Tuesday late night, when the victim was returning home along with his mother after watching tableau of lord Krishna from PAC ground.Identified as Shivam Rathor , the victim's body was recovered from the manhole with help of local residents.Based on the written complaint of family, police have filed a complaint of death caused by negligence against the private hotel owner, as the manhole was found open in front of his hotel.According to written complaint filed by the victim's father, Purushottam Rathor , "The incident occurred at around 9:45 pm, when Shivam and his mother Neelam were returning home. Due to absence of street light, the entire stretch was in dark. Unaware of open manhole, when my son reached near Hotel Delux Inn, he fell into the sewer, while Neelam shouted for help. By the time local people came to rescue, Shivam had stopped breathing.""He was declared brought dead by local hospital doctors. I lost my son, because of private hotel owner's negligence, who did not bothered to cover the manhole, in which his hotel's sewage waste system was connected," said Purushottam.Raja Singh, station officer of Tajganj, said, "We have booked the hotel owner Mahendra under IPC section 304 A (causing death by negligence)."Meanwhile, local resident staged protest against the local administration for not taking strict actions against those officials and private entities, who have kept manholes open in the city.Additional district magistrate K P Singh said, "We will investigate the matter to find out, as why the manhole was kept open. Further, I have directed the local civic bodies to ensure that all manholes in the city are covered."
