Wife of AMU PRO alleges torture by husband

"We have been staying here since December and he has not given us anything", she said.She also alleged that Omar had threatened to "eliminate" her parents as they were unable to meet his demands. She also claimed that he had even threatened her with dire consequences if she tried to go to the police or lodge any complaint against him.Saleha said that she gathered courage and finally filed a police complaint in June.

AGRA: Close on the heels of registration of cases of harassment and dowry act against an Aligarh Muslim University prof, Khalid Bin Yusuf Khan, another university official, Omar Peerzada, is in a soup, as the Aligarh police is all set to register a case against him on his wife's complaint of dowry harassment.Saleha Zaini, wife of Omar Peerzada, who works as the University PRO, has filed a police complaint accusing him of "mentally and physically" tormenting him and deserting her. She has alleged that Omar had "deprived" her and their two children of everything and was making life "hell" for them.Talking to TOI, Saleha said that she had filed a police complaint in June, but no action has been taken due to her husband's clout.When contacted Aligarh SSP Rajesh Pandey said that he was aware of the complaint and he had recommended for a registration of FIR against Omar. He said the FIR would be registered "soon".Saleha alleged that Omar had started abusing and harassing her right after their marriage in October 2012. "Instead of registering my complaint they sent us for counselling", she said adding that for the last four months she had been pursuing her complaint.She said that since the police didn't take any action against him, she filed a "dowry" and a "maintenance" case against him in the court in July.When contacted, PRO, Omar Peerzada said, "the matter is at a mediation centre and it's a private, subjudice, personal and a matrimonial issue". He said he was not aware of any complaint against him.
