Agriculture Minister RC Faldu on Thursday committed several blunders in the Assembly while replying to questions raised by opposition MLAs during question hour. Baffled by the Congress leaders' queries about the departments he holds, Faldu gave wrong information in the House. The incident triggered an urgent meeting called by the Chief Minister after the Assembly session. Faldu holds several departments including fisheries, animal husbandry, transport and rural development. The Congress MLAs on Thursday asked him about crop insurance payment and distribution of high-speed diesel oil among fishermen in the state. The minister could not reply to these queries, instead he provided wrong information, leading to a ruckus in the House. CM Vijay Rupani intervened and requested his deputy to tale the questions. Deputy CM Nitin Patel managed to control the damage by countering the Opposition's questions. Disappointed with the incident, Rupani called an urgent meeting of all the ministers and party MLAs fter the Assembly session. The CM is believed to have told all his party colleagues to prepare well on the subject before participating in a House debate. "The CM was not happy with today's incident and he has advised all of us to do proper homework for the debate in house," said a senior minister who did not want to be named in the report. "The situation was different in the past as the opposition had fewer members in the House. But their strength has increased after the last Assembly polls and many of their members are known for their fiery speech. The CM also asked the ministers to study all the questions of question hours a day before and discuss the same with concerned secretaries. He has asked the ministers to take guidance from deputy CM when needed." Faldu, 60, was Gujarat BJP chief for two terms when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of the state. He had contested Assembly polls twice during the period, but lost both the times. In the recent Assembly elections, he contested from Jamnagar South seat and won, after which he was made the revenue minister.
