With the state government this year excluding applicants living in rented accommodation, in order to prevent fake applications, few officials at the RTE froms receiving centres walk an extra mile to help them. While this may be a good move to ensure valid applications, experts believe that the decision of the state government is likely to exclude and impact huge numbers. Last year, there were more than 300 applications from children of migrating labourers whereas many locals would also be residing in rented houses. At Jodhpur shala number 2, teachers deputed for the duty have been keeping list of phone numbers parents living on rented accommodation and do not have valid. Documents seperately. In three days, of 29 applications, nearly five parents have returned back as they do not figure as the ‘’valid’’ entity. An official said, “The state government has made this rule for betterment, but we also understand that not everyone would have a document on their name. So we are keeping a note of them, incase any rule changes or some ammendment come, we can then contact them.” Sources said that those who live on rent are the ones who are in need for admission. But this year the state government has become more stricter. “Many parents take a house on rent few months before the admissions start. To avoid the fake admissions, the state government this year has not allowed applications from rented accommodation people. Similarly, Dipak Kumar Pandit from Vejalpur primary school number 2 said, “During our meeting with authorities for RTE, we have urged the authorities to include or make some kind of provision for such people. From our end, we are accepting their applications based on one document, either Aadhar card or electricity bill. And those who do not have such documents, we are taking note of the same and forwarding it to higher authorities so that they can take a call.” LOOKING BACK
