Diu to soon emerge as Smart City: Rajnath Singh

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating and laying foundation of various development projects in Diu today, Singh said the tiny UT was selected for Smart Cities Project in the final phase of bidding, and is today on the verge of realising it. “Rs1,400 crores would be spent under the Smart City project, of which the government would contribute Rs 701 crore,” he said. Some of the important projects to be undertaken in Diu include construction of a continuous coastal promenade connecting various places, development of a mobile app for convenience of tourists, setting up of an integrated command and control centre for strengthening security and improving traffic management, development of green transport, seaplane service between Daman and Diu, among others. During his visit, Singh laid foundation stone of various projects including construction of a pile jetty at a cost of Rs 3.77 crore, building on an annexe circuit house at a cost of Rs20.60 crore, setting up of first phase of sewerage network at a cost of Rs 20.70 crore, among others. He also inaugurated the 450-metre long jogging track in Ghoghla, which has been built at a cost of Rs4.37 crore. He said fund allocation for Diu had jumped by 50% in four years to Rs 150 crore in 2017-18, and assured that the central government would continue to allocate more funds for UT.
